Curriculum
In Indonesia the name of school level are different; elementary (SD), junior high (SMP), and senior high (SMA). They attend to kindergarten about 4 years old. There are 6 years for studying in primary school. They must go to school six (or five, depending on the institution). They study on Monday to friday from 7:30 a.m. until 4 pm in the afternoon . The high school has the same study time. There are 3 years for studying in high school. The students can choose between science-mathematics and social study. Students can also choose to participate in extracurricular activities provided by the school such as sports, arts, or religious studies.

Teaching plan

  1. Objectives

At the end of the period, the students are expected to:

  1. state the definition of scale,

  2. create figures or drawings using the scale factors to

  3. figure out the sizes of the objects, and

  4. solve problems about scale drawing.

 2.Subject Matter

  1. Topic: Scale

  2. Concept/Ideas: Scale is used to represent the relationship between a measurement on a model and the corresponding measurement on the actual object.

  3. Process Skills: Representing and Connecting

  4. References: Math Builders Grade 7 workext, pages 222-226

  5. Materials: pencil, marker, bond paper and manila paper.

  6. Value Focus: Awareness to structural environment, perseverance, and focus to study

  1. Procedure/ Learning Activities

Teacher’s Activity                                                           Students’ Activity

A. Preliminary Activities

     1. Prayer

Good morning class. Please all stand let us pray.

                                                                                    Good morning ma’am.

(The students will stand and pray).

     2. Unfreezing

Okay class you want to play a game ? I want you to find a pair .

We will play a game called “ pula, puti” Assign yourself if

who will be pula and who will be puti. I will say pula puti pula

puti repeatedly and the last word that I say will be the one who

will be responsible to catch the hand of his partner.

The students will perform the game.

    3. Discussion

What is ratio ?

How to solve ratio?

What are some examples of ratios?

How to simplify ratio?

Ratio is a relationship between the two things.

Compare the two things that are represented by a number and find the unknown.

The ratio of the boys and the girls

The ratio of the poor and the rich

Divide both sides with their Gcf.

B. Activity Proper

Now, we will have a game.I will group you into two groups .

What I have here in the screen the different numbers. To play this game, you must answer the following . The group who got the correct answer first will get 1 point. The group who got the highest score will be the winner. The winning group will have a price later .

The students will perform the activity.

  2. Presentation

I have here five letters on the board you can form this into word phrase by finding the sum of a gven numbers.

S C A L E

  3. Analysis

This time, we will learn more about the Scale.

Scale

What is scale?

Scale is used to represent the relationship between a measurement on a model and the corresponding measurement on the actual object.

Scale Drawings

A ratio is used in scale drawings of maps and buildings.  That is:

Likewise, we have:

A scale is usually expressed in one of two ways:

  • using units as in 1 cm to 1 km

  • without explicitly mentioning units as in 1 : 100 000.

Note:

A scale of 1 : 100 000 means that the real distance is 100 000 times the length of 1 unit on the map or drawing.

Example :

The length of the bridge is 500 miles. If 1 inch represents 25 miles, what is the length of the bridge?

Solution:

Step 1: Divide 500 by 25 to determine the number of units = 500/25 = 20 units

Step 2: Take the units and multiply by the scale.

Step 3: 20(1) = 20 inches

Step 4: The answer is: 20 inches

The height to width ratio of the Indian Flag is 2:3

So for every 2 (inches, meters, whatever) of height
there should be 3 of width.

If we made the flag 20 inches high, it should be 30 inches wide.

If we made the flag 40 cm high, it should be 60 cm wide (which is still in the ratio 2:3)

1500

Now, I have here papers on the board. Students need to pick one colored paper only.

Does everyone have?

Now, open the papers.

Whot got papers that contain “kopiko”?

You will be the group kopiko.

Whot got papers that contain “Relaxa”?

You will be the group relaxa.

Whot got rolled papers that contain “tamarin”?

You will be the group tamarin.

Now, form a circle with you group. Choose you leader, secretary, and reporter.

What you were going to do is to solve this problems by applying the ways on how to solve the scale.

I am only giving you 10 minutes to finish this activity.

  4. Exercise

Direction:  Finding the scale of ratio.

  1. Simplify the scale 15 mm : 3 m.

  2. Simplify the scale 55 cm : 500 mm.

  3. Simplify the scale 600 cm : 2 km.

  4. Simplify the scale 60 m : 15 km.

  1. 10 millimeter = 1 centimeter

    100 centimeter = 1 meter

    1,000 meter = 1 kilometer

    10,000 centimeter = 1 kilometer

    Simplify the scale  80 m : 900 cm.

  5.Generalization

  1.  The length of the tunnel is 460 miles. If 1 inch represents 60 miles, what is the length of the tunnel?

  2. The length of the road is 600 miles. If 1 inch represents 30 miles, what is the length of the road?

  3.  If 1 inch represents 10   miles on a map, then how many inches will represent 120 miles?

IV. Evaluation

Exercise

Direction:  Finding the scale of ratio.

  1. Simplify the scale 15 mm : 3 m.

  2. Simplify the scale 55 cm : 500 mm.

  3. Simplify the scale 600 cm : 2 km.

  4. Simplify the scale 60 m : 15 km.

  1. 10 millimeter = 1 centimeter

    10,000 centimeter = 1 kilometer

    Simplify the scale  80 m : 900 cm.

V.  Assignment

Find the following:

  1. If on a scale drawing 35 feet are represented by 25 inches, then a scale of 1/8 inch represents how many feet?
